Summer Camps @ The Tech: Best Science Programs for Kids in the SF Bay Area

Summer Camps @ The TechAre your kids fascinated by the world around them? Do you routinely find yourself fielding questions such as, “How do the bubbles get into soda?” and “What makes your heart beat?” If these queries sound familiar, then your kids may be well-suited to a science summer camp. For kids, the summer months are a time for fun, freedom and adventure. But a lack of structured activities can rapidly lead to boredom. For kids who really enjoy science, technology, engineering and the digital arts, the right camp program can make for a super memorable (and enriching!) summer. Galileo’s Summer Camps @ The Tech may be the perfect place for your budding scientist.

What Do Kids Do During Science Summer Camp?

Summer Camps @ The Tech campers explore the museum floor.STEAM summer camps have skyrocketed in popularity in recent years and each program tends to operate a bit differently. But generally speaking, the best camp itineraries are crafted in a way that’s suitable for and appealing to a particular age group. For instance, camp curricula for younger kids may feature lots of different hour-long activities. This allows staff to engage the campers, while simultaneously accommodating their shorter attention span. Older kids are generally better suited to activities and projects with a longer duration. In fact, some of Galileo’s camp programs involve projects and experiments that span the entire week-long session and allow campers to really dive in deep.

For Bay Area campers entering 4th through 8th grades, Summer Camps @ The Tech offers an opportunity to explore different subjects in depth. We partner with The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose to give campers a summer of science they won’t forget. For either part- or full-day week-long sessions, kids get to design their own schedules, choosing one or two classes with the option of extended care in the morning and afternoon.

Summer Camps @ The Tech campers in science lab.Course options are wide-ranging and include something for everyone. For instance, kids who love animals may love our Animal Investigators camp, which delves into the fundamentals of zoology. Those who love domestic pets may prefer the Animal M.D. camp since it explores the ins and outs of veterinary medicine. If the human body fascinates your kids, then our Junior M.D. camp curriculum will be a great fit.

Does your kid love detective shows? If so, CSI: The Tech could be the ideal summer camp program as participants investigate forensics, trace evidence and even conduct cyber investigations. If your kids are enthusiastic about cooking and food in general, then you may be well-served by a camp program like Kitchen Chemistry or Molecular Gastronomy.

No matter which course or courses they choose, campers all get hands-on experience as they learn and experiment. It's no regular summer day—kids leave feeling as though they have actually spent their time as a chemist in a lab or a doctor on call. It’s the kind of total immersion that will keep them excited and working toward their goals even after camp ends.
