The Best Summer Camps in Chicagoland | North Shore, Northwest & Western Suburbs
At Galileo, we’re committed to making learning a fun experience—one that occurs outside of a traditional classroom in an environment that prompts children to explore, inquire, experiment and grow.
The summer months can be a challenging time for parents of knowledge-hungry children, as after so many visits to the Adler Planetarium or the Chicago Children’s Museum, your kid’s practically an expert. If you are looking for an engaging and dynamic summer experience for your child, then Galileo’s Chicagoland summer camps may be a perfect fit. Galileo’s camps have only been in the region since 2016, but our program is already loved by parents and kids alike, and is one of the best summer camps in Chicago. Designed by educators, our curriculum is ideal for active kids who are eager to discover, explore and innovate.
DISCOVER THE CAMP LOCATION NEAREST YOU:
Our mission is to develop innovators who envision and create a better world. Our programs provide campers with a nurturing environment where they can ask questions, make mistakes, analyze, collaborate and learn from experience. It’s this type of environment that builds innovators with a passion for lifelong learning and a can-do attitude that carries forward into their future—their future relationships, education and even their future careers.
These far-reaching benefits are precisely what we aim to provide to our campers, who range in age from pre-kindergarten to 8th grade. Our Chicagoland summer camp locations are spread throughout the northwest, the North Shore and western Chicago.
Each camp session is suitable as a standalone summer camp experience, and no two sessions are precisely the same. Campers are free to sign up for a single week, multiple consecutive weeks, or multiple non-consecutive weeks, providing you with the flexibility to plan your kid’s camp experience around the rest of your summer.
What is Camp Galileo?
If you want a fantastic, engaging experience for your pre-K through 5th grader, Camp Galileo is it. Our program is developed by a full-time team of educators who works year-round to architect dynamic and educational camp curriculum.
Our Chicago summer camp programs feature a unique blend of art, science and outdoor activities, where kids can socialize, learn and discover what it means to be an innovator. Each camp session has a distinct theme—our 2018 camp themes include:
- The Incredible Human Body: The Art and Science of Being Human
- Space Explorers: Cosmic Art and Astronaut Science
- Road Trip Adventure: Art and Engineering on Route 66
- Galileo Makers: Materials Challenge: Extraordinary Art and Inventions with Ordinary Supplies
The activities and learning opportunities at Camp G revolve around the weekly theme, and the themes are offered throughout the summer (check your nearby location’s schedule for which theme is offered which weeks). Campers can sign up for one or all themes, with each one presenting a unique camp experience. If your camper chooses to repeat a theme, they’ll have the chance to build upon what they’ve previously learned and created.
Galileo is proud to partner with excellent Chicagoland schools, hosting our camps in Chicago, North Shore, Northwest Suburbs and Western Suburbs. All 2018 locations will be available before registration opens on January 8.
What is Galileo Summer Quest?
Galileo Summer Quest is a day camp program for kids who will be entering 5th through 8th grade. Each child has the opportunity to pursue something that interests them, as we offer sessions with different themes or “majors,” from go-karts to cooking (or “chefology”), robotics to catapult construction. Galileo Summer Quest majors are hosted in Chicago and Northshore. All 2018 locations will be available before registration opens on January 8.
Entering 5th graders who are right on the age cusp between the two programs can sign up for Galileo Summer Quest or Camp Galileo—or both!
Why Are Galileo Camps Different?
Galileo’s Chicago summer camp programs stand apart due to our phenomenal staff and the quality of our curriculum that spans a range of themes and majors that kids can enjoy. Our goal is to transform the way in which your child thinks, learns and engages with the world around them. This shift is what creates innovators—individuals who are not afraid to pursue their dreams, explore, collaborate, make mistakes and grow from those experiences. We want to teach kids to see themselves not as recipients of what the world gives them, but as actors who can create real change. This mindset shift is something that can permeate every nook and cranny of their future, benefiting them for years to come. It’s this goal, this approach that makes Galileo one of the best summer camp experiences in northwest Chicago, the North Shore and western Chicagoland. We also host camps in Southern California and the San Francisco Bay Area, where we began our groundbreaking program in 2002.
Your child will leave our camp with a new sense of confidence, independence, a renewed thirst for knowledge and some wonderful new friends. Make the coming summer an enriching and memorable one for your child with Galileo. Sign up for our mailing list to be notified when registration opens. Though parents can sign up new campers right until 3 pm on the Friday preceding the start of a new session, we recommend that parents sign up as soon as possible, because sessions fill up fast, and you don’t want your kid to miss out!

Here are a few simple guidelines to help you plan
A single week at Camp Galileo or Galileo Summer Quest is a great experience. With multiple weeks, the impact grows significantly. We encourage parents to sign their kids up for three or more.
You’ll see that camp dates are slightly different at each location.
The more weeks you sign up for, the lower the price. You’ll also see discounts when you add extended care.
Camp Galileo themes are designed to be so rich that campers can enjoy them multiple times during the course of a single summer.
Every Galileo camp has its own unique identity that reflects the personality of the camp staff and the setting. If you’re torn between two locations, give us a call at 1.800.854.3684 and we may be able to help you decide.
5th graders have a choice. They can be leaders at Camp Galileo. Or they can focus in on deeper projects and be around 6th-8th graders at Galileo Summer Quest. Or they can do a mix of the two camps.
As you’ll see, not every location is home to both Camp Galileo and Galileo Summer Quest. We’re working on that.
