Chicagoland fun for kids this weekend: Museum Week, Harvest Fest, and the Midnight Circus

Is there a budding environmental scientist in your life, just itching to save the world and get their hands dirty? Orland Park Library hosts a weekly workshop - the EnvionMental Club - for just the type. Swing by this Friday, 10/2, from 4:00 - 5:00 for hands-on, interactive science activities designed to pique the interest of earth lovers in 3rd - 5th grade. No registration is necessary for this free activity series, but space is limited. You can find them in the Youth Services Program room.

Chicagoans rejoice - today marks the start of Museum Week 2015! From 10/1 - 10/7, Chicago's top museums are joining together to celebrate with discounted admission rates, special exhibits, giveaways, and more. Twelve amazing establishments are participating, including Adler Planetarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, Shedd Aquarium, and the Museum of Science and Industry. With so much to choose from, there's truly something for everyone - from art to aquariums, animals to astronomy.

This Saturday 10/3 spells fall fun for the whole family at the Arlington Heights Autumn Harvest Fest. This one-stop shop for all things autumn features a petting zoo, a scarecrow building contest, story sessions, face painting, make-and-take crafts, food vendors, a farmers market, and all-day entertainment, including a special performance beginning at 1:00pm. The festival runs from 11:00 - 3:00 at North School Park, and is admission-free for folks of all ages.

If you haven't had a chance to catch a performance at the Midnight Circus yet this year, time is running out before the circus leaves town for the season. Catch a performance on either Saturday 10/3 or Sunday 10/4 at Chicago's Independence Park. While you won't catch them at midnight (showtimes are 2:00 and 5:00 both days), you'll see "circus" in spades - this show includes feats of acrobatics, balance, juggling, clowning, magic, and all-around awesome. Tickets are $5, and performances continue each weekend at a different park until the circus packs up on 10/18.
