The first-ever San Jose Mini Maker Faire is this Sunday! Check out over 70 Maker exhibits, filled with family-friendly, innovative fun. See a DIY bamboo bike, immerse yourself is steampunk, learn how to make marbled paper and letterpress. There will be hands-on projects, new ideas to wow and excite, and of course, entertainment and food. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at History Park (Senter Road and Phelan Avenue). Zine Fest! The 14th annual San Francisco Zine Fest is happening this weekend. While the main event is Sunday, 826 Valencia is hosting a Write, Copy, Share zine workshop on Saturday for students ages 8-11. Spots are extremely limited. The main Zine Fest is at Golden Gate Park's County Fair Building from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and will include panels, workshops, and over 200 small press features. Bring a sketchbook and a pencil for a drawing session!
Free museums! This is the Sunday of free museum admissions! The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and the Oakland Museum of California are free for the first Sunday of the month. In addition, Bank of America cardholders can get free admission into the de Young Museum, Contemporary Jewish Museum, Legion of Honor, San Jose Museum of Art, The Tech Museum, the Computer History Museum, and Chabot Space & Science Center this weekend when showing their cards.
2015 Wizard World Comic Con San Jose! If you have a young sci-fi fan or a kid into cosplay, head to San Jose this weekend for a major touring expo celebrating video games, comics, sci-fi movies and television, with artists, actors, and animators on hand. Plus, expect a lot of costumes and many photo ops. Wizard World San Jose kicks off tomorrow and runs through Sunday.
